Finances are often a major concern for students seeking to achieve a seminary education and prepare for ministry. As a Financial Aid office, we desire to provide scholastic encouragement to students by acknowledging achievement with financial support. That is why we offer grants, awards, tuition reductions, loans and work study options that can help relieve some of the financial burden.
Listed below are some guidelines to keep in mind when applying for Financial Aid:
- Financial aid recipients must be matriculated M.Div students.
- Scholarship and grant recipients must be enrolled at least half-time. (7.5 credits in residence, 6 credits distance learning) Half of the award will be withheld in each semester in which the student is not enrolled at least half-time. Scholarships will be prorated for students enrolled between half- and full-time. This does not apply to seniors in their last semester when they are completing the degree in three years, if full-time enrollment is not necessary to meet the graduation requirements.
- In determining who will receive financial aid, consideration is given to academic achievement, ecclesiastical endorsement, family resources, support from church and friends, income opportunities outside of the seminary, eligibility for government loans, and present debt.
If you would like additional information on the grants, awards, tuition reductions, loans, and work study programs, please contact Norm Donkersloot.
Financial AidStudents are required to complete two forms to apply for financial aid. First, the WTS application assesses need based on student income, expected gifts, assets and projected expenses. This WTS financial aid application form should be downloaded (see below), completed and returned to Pat Dykhuis. Students are also required to complete the U.S. Government form, FAFSA. This form can be accessed at FAFSA.ed.gov.
Students lacking personal finances to fund their seminary education, can borrow up to $20,500 on an annual basis through the Stafford Loan Program. Of that amount up to $8,500 may be available on a subsidized basis depending upon the information reported through FAFSA and the WTS financial aid application.
