ANGEL - Questions and Answers

  1. What is ANGEL?
    ANGEL is web-bases course management software that enables teaching and learning, and communicating on the Internet. To learn more about ANGEL you may visit ANGEL public web site at http://www.angellearning.com/default.html
  1. What do I need to use ANGEL software?
    You need a web browser (FireFox or Internet Explorer, best to have both) and Internet connection to use ANGEL.
  1. How can I go to WTS ANGEL site?
    Go to http://learn.westernsem.edu.
  1. What web browser should we use for ANGEL?
    Generally speaking, ANGEL function well in many browsers. Internet Explorer and FireFox are supported and tested on PCs running Windows OS and FireFox on Macs running OS X. Certain contents performance better on IE or Firefox. We recommend you to have both of them.
  1. Can I log in to see how it looks like before I officially registered?
    Yes, follow the next section “Course Demo” on this page to log on to view a few demo courses.
  1. How do I log in?
    Go to home page  http://learn.westernsem.edu. Type user name and password, then click Log On button to log in.
  1. What do I need to know to use ANGEL?
    Basic Internet browsing and email skills, knowing how to download and upload files, understand attachment. Be sure your machine meets the technical requirements on this page.
  1. Is there an instruction on how to use ANGEL?
    Yes, on WTS's home page http://learn.westernsem.edu, click the Help icon  on the left to open the online help instruction and download student_quickstart file.

Course Demo on ANGEL

We provide generic logins for you to log in at our distance learning site to take the demo course. Please feel free to post your questions on the discussion forum.

The generic accounts are dlstudent01, dlstudent02 and dlstudent03. The password is western for all three accounts. Please follow the steps below to login.

  1. go to distance learning web site at http://learn.westernsem.edu
  2. type in one of the accounts provided (such as dlstudent03) in Username field and password (western) in Password field. Then click "Log On" button. Please do NOT change the password after you log in so that other users can log in to view the demo courses.
  3. "My Page" displays after you successfully log in. Clicking "Demo Course of Seminar on Congregational Studies" under COURSES toolbar will bring you into the course.
  4. Click Lessons tab on the top of the course page. You will see the course contents listed in this course.

Feel free to open any contents and post messages on the Discussion Forum. Dr. Brown who teaches this course will check the discussion forum weekly and reply to you.

Technology Requirements

Each student is required to provide his or her own computer with the basic applications. A high speed internet connection is strongly recommanded.

  Basic requirements
Operating System Windows XP (Home/Pro) or Vista,  Mac with the following applications
Applications MS Word 2000 + (both Windows and Mac users)
Web browsers:
Internet Explorer 7, FireFox 2.0 or up (including Mac users)
Add-ins: depending on each instructor's reference, one of the following players maybe needed for video lectures.

  • RealPlayer
  • QuickTime
  • Flash
  • The followings are your choices
    Adobe Reader
    for reading PDF files
    PowerPoint Viewer
    if you don't have MS PowerPoint
    Word Viewer if you don't have MS Word
    Google Online Documentation for online MS office creating, sharing, storing files.

    Anti-Virus software is strongly recommanded
    Processor & Memory Recommanded processor over 1 GHz, memory over 512 MB to ensure playing audio/video lectures smooth
    Hard Drive 20 GB minimum, 50GB is recommanded
    Micphone and Speakers Language courses such as Hebrew or Greek may require submitting recording files. A head set is recommanded
    CD/DVD Drive Some online courses have CDs/DVDs. Make sure your machine plays CDs/DVDs.
    Wireless Wireless connection is available on campus. You need 802.11g type wireless card either internal or external on your laptop if you wish to use Internet via your laptop while you are on campus. Otherwise, computers are available in lab, library and student lounge.
