Featured Speaker:  Greg Ogden

Greg Ogden is the Executive Pastor of Discipleship at Christ  Church of Oak Brook, IL. From 1998-2002, Greg served as Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at Fuller Theological Seminary and Associate Professor of Lay Equipping and Discipleship. Prior to coming to Fuller, Greg enjoyed 24 years in pastoral ministry, primarily within Presbyterian churches, but most recently as Senior Pastor at the Saratoga Federated Church in the Silicon Valley, California.

Greg is the author of four books:

- Discipleship Essentials: A Guide to Building Your Life in Christ
- Transforming Discipleship: Making Disciples a Few at a Time

Breakout Groups will be offered once on Thursday evening and two times on Friday.  Below the descriptions are the times the breakouts will be offered.  Selection of your Friday Breakouts is necessary at registration.

Leading a Small Group on the Belhar
Victoria Proctor Gibbs and Al Mulder, Anti-Racism leaders, CRC Home Missions Great Lakes Team, & Madison Square CRC
We will explore how studying the Belhar now in small groups will help to inform the desire of the church to be reflective of how God intends for it to look like.  (Thursday evening only)

Casualties, Conundrums and Community                                      
Sam Huizenga, Ministry Developer Coach, CRC Home Missions Great Lakes Team
Community can  be messy.  How do you manage the talker, draw out the quiet one, ask good questions, and create a safe environment?  We will discuss tips for wading through these questions and other challenging issues of small groups.(Thurs. evening and Fri. afternoon)

Essential Images for Small Groups

We will explore four images that unleash the heart of small group life and engage the world with the essence of what the church is called to be. (Thursday evening and Friday afternoon)

The Transformational Journey:  How to Help People Take the Next Step

Too often churches take a programmatic potluck approach to Christian Discipleship rather than be intentional about people development.  Learn how to employ coaching methods, spiritual direction, assessment, and discipleship outcomes to simplify and strengthen your discipleship strategy for a more powerful impact.(Thursday evening and Friday morning)

What Do I Do with 90 Minutes?!?

Facilitators of small groups will consider the expectation that sessions they prepare will transform  their own and their group’s lives. We will also examine a process of preparation for leading which boosts the growth and understanding of persons in their group. (Thursday evening and Friday morning)

Is your goal to develop community which grows the kingdom of God?  Where do you start?  What important questions need to be answered?  We will discuss foundational issues around building a small group ministry that support that mission of your church.  (Friday morning only)

Transforming Consistory Leadership for a Missional Church                                          Ellen Ratmeyer, Coordinator of Consistory Training and Ministry Services, RCA
This workshop will address what needs to happen in your life personally and in your consistory in order for your church to place participation in God’s mission at the center of your life and ministry.   Learn how to effectively use Jesus’ method of accomplishing life change by investing in a few people at a time. (Friday morning only)

Do we have to call it Small groups?

This workshop will explore three new models of relational based discipleship:  spiritual support groups, the triad model and discipleship coaching.  These three methods will equip you with new tools and ideas for being and making disciples.  (Friday morning and afternoon)

How to Launch a 12 Step Recovery Ministry
Victoria Proctor Gibbs, Small Group Ministry Developer, CRC Home Missions Great Lakes Team, and Elder at Madison Square CRC 
Victoria has been working with the 12 steps of AA for the last 20 years. She started as a result of seeking her own path to wholeness and healing.  Come learn how the church can benefit from this path synonymous with any other sanctification guide.        (Friday afternoon only)

Discipleship Coaching                                                                                                  Vicky Menning, Coordinator of Church Health and Coaching, RCA
Participants in this workshop will discover the power of listening well, asking questions that prod deeper reflection, and creating quiet space for response to the Holy Spirit.     (Friday afternoon only)

Cost to Attend:

The cost per person to come to the two day event is $50 per person. 

For Thursday evening.  The cost per person is $10 with a cap of $50 per church.  (You may bring more than 5 people from your church for the $50.) 

Friday's cost is $40 per person.
