If you feel a deep yearning to serve God in a special way or if those who know you best say, "you should be a pastor..." WTS may be the place for discerning whether God is calling you to the ordained ministry of word and sacrament.
The M.Div. degree program is designed for those planning to be ordained for ministry or to continue studies beyond the master level. A minimum of three years of full-time study on campus in Holland, Michigan or five years of study by distance learning is required to fulfill the degree requirements.
To apply for the M.Div. program, you must:
- Have a Bachelor of Arts degree or its equivalent, which should include a liberal arts core of: 2 semesters of world history; one semester each of English composition and English literature; one semester of philosophy; one semester of psychology; one semester of sociology.
- Apply no later than May 1 for admittance in the Fall semester for the In-Residence program, and August 1 for the Distance Learning program.
Degree Requirements:
- 96 semester credit hours consisting of introductory Biblical, Theological and Christian Ministry core courses, upper level electives and Formation for Ministry requirements.
- Attend yearly orientation held in August for In-Residence students. The Distance Learning students have an online orientation in October.
- Participate in an Intercultural Immersion experience
M.Div. Careers
Students completing the M.Div. have gone on to ministry in ordained pastorates, youth work, outreach and mission as well as serving the church of Christ in other areas. Others have used the base they receive at WTS while continuing on in additional study.
