Table Fellowship
Each morning following chapel service students gather with faculty and staff for coffee and conversation and to share needs and prayer concerns. Monthly all-seminary luncheons provide time for lively discussions and relationship-building. Lunchtimes at the Community Kitchen are another opportunity for table fellowship, as are the holidays and special events that provide opportunities to celebrate.
Fall Retreat
Each academic year kicks off with a day-long retreat for students, staff, and faculty at GENEVA Camp & Retreat Center. Located north of Holland on the Lake Michigan shore, GENEVA's relaxed, beautiful outdoor setting affords students and their families an opportunity through study, worship, and recreation to get to know each other and the entire Western community.
Student Government
The Student Council is made up of representatives from each class and a faculty advisor. It sponsors social activities and athletic events, addresses academic concerns, common worship, involvement in mission, and social action. The council meets regularly during the academic year.
Student Support Services
A student support team consisting of appointed representatives attends to the overall quality of life experienced by students. The team looks for ways Western can be more aware of and responsive to the needs of seminary members. Headed by the dean of students, the team coordinates academic support, organizes existing student support services, gathers information about student experiences at WTS, and proposes changes in policies and programs when needed. The team takes particular concern for assuring the care and support of international students and other students who may require specific attention.
Counseling
Western provides short-term personal and family counseling and referral service to full-time students and their spouses. Students taking fewer than three courses each term may use the counseling service as availability permits. Western also offers a variety of enrichment and group experiences to facilitate personal growth and wholeness among students.
Parent's Night Out
Seminarians with children will be happy to learn that Western students are available to provide childcare for three hours every third Friday evening in the student lounge.
