Named in honor of Rev. James Zwemer, the Zwemer Society recognizes those individuals who have included Western Seminary in their estate plans or have made a planned gift in support of the seminary. Rev. Zwemer secured the first significant financial gifts for the seminary, thus assuring our early financial stability.

Members of the Zwemer Society will be invited to an annual event at the seminary and will be recognized by name on a plaque at Western. If you have included Western in your estate plans, thank you and please become a member. How can I become a member?

To become a member of the Zwemer Society, simply notify us (advancement@westernsem.edu) of your planned gift arrangement. You may complete the Zwemer Society Membership Form and mail it to:

What is a planned gift?

A planned gift is one which is promised, but deferred until a later date. This usually allows you to give a significant donation without jeopardizing your current or future obligations. A planned gift often has significant tax advantages or can be arranged to produce an income to you for life. Some examples include:

• Gifts through a will or living trust
• A charitable life insurance policy
• Life estate in residence or vacation property
• Retirement plans such as a 401k or IRA
• A life income plan such as a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust

May I choose how my gift is used?

Yes! You may designate your gift to a specific seminary need or you may leave it undesignated for us to place it where it is most needed at the time. You may also designate your gift to the endowment fund. Some examples of specific programs and endowments are:

• Student scholarship assistance
• Facility additions or enhancements
• Faculty support or development
• Technology enhancements
• Library holdings
• Intercultural ministry opportunities
